Any Unusual Changes in Behavior

While unusual changes in behavior can be a sign of suicide, they are often overlooked because the changes may seem unrelated.  For example, a usually outgoing person may start to withdraw from social activities and become more isolated. Or someone who is typically well-kept may let their appearance go. These changes in behavior can be a sign that the person is struggling and may be considering suicide.

Changes in Sleeping Patterns

Changes in sleeping patterns is another common sign of suicide. A person who is struggling may start to sleep more or less than usual. They may also have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. If you notice any changes in someone’s sleeping habits, it’s important to reach out and ask how they’re doing.

Loss of Interest

If someone starts to lose interest in activities they once enjoyed, it may be a sign that they’re considering suicide. This can include hobbies, social activities, work, or school. If you notice a change in someone’s level of interest, ask them if they’re okay and see if there’s anything you can do to help.

If someone starts making preparations for their death, it’s a sign that they may be considering suicide. This can include giving away prized possessions, making a will, or talking about life after death. If you notice any of these signs, reach out to the person and see if they need help.
